Working Internet Speeds Across Europe

This data visualization, same as the Tampa Bay Lightning visualization from the prior post, was done through a team challenge in my current role as Data Analyst with Brambles (see current openings here, it’s an incredible team!)

Our team has data visualization challenges where one dataset is shared amongst the team and each member comes up with ideas on how to best visualize it.

In this particular challenge, we were European internet speeds from 2019 to 2022. This challenge was strictly using data at the country level and to incorporate at least one map.

As somebody who desires to travel more and hopefully make my way to Europe soon, I wanted to create an exploratory dashboard. The goal is to be able to use this dashboard and plan the best potential countries to work from.

For example, if somebody is working remote and desires to backpack throughout Europe, this dashboard could provide them needed insights for planning their work. I do know the level of detail would need to go deeper, by city or zip code, to really be useful.

With it being an exploratory dashboard, I thought it important that if a user selected a country on the map, it would highlight all data in the dot plot, not just from the selected year. This would help display the speed growth in relation to the other countries.

Sorry for the poor quality, the maps wouldn’t show when exporting as PDF so had to use a screenshot…
